existing medical conditions explained

Like most other travel insurers, our policies do not automatically cover medical conditions that existed before the issue of a policy.

Don't despair we still may be able to help you!...although the policy may cost a little more.

the medical assessment process
If you have an existing medical condition, you'll simply need to go through a medical assessment process (it's alot easier than it sounds). There are also some areas that we will need your help with to ensure the process goes smoothly:

1. You need to disclose all your conditions e.g. if you suffer from asthma and high cholesterol, we need you to tell us about both conditions
2. Not disclosing a condition in full could mean that we cannot pay a claim
3. Our acceptance is on an 'all or nothing basis'

The term "Existing Medical Conditions" has a special meaning. It means:

a. any physical defect, consition, illness or disease for which treatment, medication or advice (including investigation) has been received or prescribed by a medical or dental advisor in the 90 days prior to the issue of the policy, or the date the Trip is booked, whichever occurs last; or
b. any chronic or ongoing (whichever chronic or otherwise) medical or dental condition, illness or disease medically documented prior to the issue of the Policy, or the date the Trip is booked, whichever occurs last.

how the screening assessment works?
Our ability to cover your Existing Medical Conditions and any additional premium payable will depend not only on a full declaration of your conditions but also on where you are travelling to, the duration of your trip, your age and other factors. For example, we may be able to cover you for a trip to France, but not for a trip to the USA. This reflects the availability and cost of health care in each country.

other considerations
1. Right at this point in time, only one person per policy may declare conditions or pregnancy so seperate policies will need to be taken. Being on seperate policies will not affect the price you pay.
2. Existing Medical Conditions of any other person i.e. the non-traveller - you cannot specifically insure the Existing Medical Condition/s of another person who is not travelling. In the event of a claim, we will consider the health of that person at the time you took the policy and if the chance of a claim occuring was highly unlikely. We will not pay more than £1500 under all sections of the policy combined. Please refer to the General Exclusions section of the Policy Wording for further information.
